Blog Entry 4: My Final Reflection
Throughout this course, I have learned vital concepts that will carry on into my future classrooms and affect the lives of many students. My only conception of English learning programs were ones that placed English language learners in a deficit view, specifically viewing language as a problem, rather than a resource. By watching the videos in this course and reading the text, I have come to realize the tremendous benefits that a child is afforded if he or she can become fluent in more than one language (Wright, 2015, p. 2). As a future educator, I am afforded the opportunity to make this occur. In order to be successful, I must take into consideration all that I have learned and be open to trying different methods to see what works with my specific students (p. 64). In addition to basing my beliefs on the text, it is also important to seek out other research-based material to ensure that my ELLs will receive the best possible approaches to instruction.
